On the morning of January 19, 2026, in Hanoi, Vietnam National Chemical Group (VINACHEM) held a working session with representatives of the World Bank (WB) to discuss cooperation orientations and the expansion of support across multiple areas, with a particular focus on promoting green transformation programs—one of the Group’s key strategic priorities in the coming period.
Attending the meeting on behalf of the World Bank were Ms. Mariam J. Sherman, World Bank Country Director for Viet Nam, Cambodia and Lao PDR; Ms. Claudia Suarez, Regional Director for Energy in East Asia and the Pacific; Ms. Zayra Romo, Energy Practice Manager in Viet Nam; Mr. Chu Ba Thi, Senior Specialist; and Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Senior Advisor.

Representing VINACHEM were Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Member of the Members’ Council and President & CEO of the Group; Mr. Le Hoang, Deputy General Director; together with leaders from the Technical, Finance & Accounting, Investment & Construction, Business Planning, and Communications & Development departments.
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu shared an overview of the Group’s recent operations, with emphasis on its sustainable development orientation and green transformation program. Accordingly, VINACHEM has developed and implemented a Green Transformation Program across all member units, focusing on innovation in production technologies, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, enhancement of recycling activities, and more efficient use of resources. In 2025, the Group officially launched the Green Transformation Program throughout the entire system, laying the foundation for the next stage of development.

In the coming period, VINACHEM has been assigned by the Government the task of achieving double-digit growth during 2026–2030 and beyond, with the role of a core enterprise leading the chemical industry and pioneering green transformation within the state-owned enterprise sector.
Representatives of the World Bank highly appreciated VINACHEM’s efforts and strategic approach, affirming that WB is ready to accompany the Group by studying financial and technical support models and sharing international experience to help VINACHEM realize its green production objectives. Previously, the World Bank conducted surveys at several VINACHEM member units, including Ha Bac Nitrogenous Fertilizer and Chemicals Joint Stock Company, Ninh Binh Fertilizer One Member Limited Liability Company, DAP-VINACHEM Joint Stock Company, and Vietnam Apatite One Member Limited Liability Company, to preliminarily assess the feasibility of future cooperation programs.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu emphasized that the World Bank is a reputable international organization with strong capacity and extensive experience in supporting sustainable business development. VINACHEM expressed its desire to access financial and technical resources to realize its growth objectives as well as its green and digital transformation strategies for the 2026–2030 period. The Group will assign focal units to study the specific needs of each member company and subsequently work with WB’s specialized departments to prepare reports for submission to competent authorities for consideration.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu also noted that VINACHEM is currently an active partner in implementing the “One Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice” project, which aligns with the fertilizer industry’s development orientation toward producing specialized products tailored to specific crops, regions, and growth stages. This approach helps reduce fertilizer usage, minimize losses, and lower environmental emissions.
Beyond agriculture, VINACHEM plans to research and develop energy storage battery production to serve the renewable energy sector, as well as to develop high-purity chemical products for the electronics and semiconductor industries—fields with high added value and consistent with the Group’s product restructuring strategy.
Throughout the cooperation process, VINACHEM places special emphasis on access to new technologies and hopes the World Bank will support high-quality human resource training, enhancing the capacity of its workforce in green transformation and updating global advanced technology trends, thereby gradually applying them effectively to the Group’s production and business activities.

On this occasion, WB representatives invited VINACHEM and its member units to visit and survey several green fertilizer plants around the world. This is a direction that the Group is actively pursuing, aiming to learn best practices and successful international models for appropriate application under VINACHEM’s practical conditions.
