December 23, 2009, is a milestone of special significance for the Vietnamese chemical industry, marking the birth of the Vietnam National Chemical Group (VINACHEM) according to Decision No. 2180/QD-TTg dated December 23, 2009, of the Prime Minister, on the basis of rearranging and reorganizing the Vietnam Chemical Corporation. The establishment of VINACHEM demonstrated the determination of the Party and the State in building a strong state-owned economic group, playing a core role in the development of the chemical industry – a foundational industry of the national economy.

Right from its establishment, VINACHEM has operated according to the Parent Company – Subsidiary model, consistent with modern management requirements. The Parent Company – Vietnam National Chemical Group is a 100% state-owned enterprise, performing the functions of capital investment, strategic orientation, coordination, and support for member units. Beside the Office and functional departments, the Parent Company has 02 dependent accounting units: the Chemical Science and Technology Information Center and the Chemical Commerce and Service Center, contributing significantly to research, providing science-technology information, trade promotion, and market connection.

Results and imprints after establishment

Going through more than 15 years of establishment, VINACHEM has step by step overcome many difficulties and challenges, especially in the context of global economic fluctuations, input material prices, and increasing environmental requirements. The Group has maintained its role as a pillar of the chemical industry, ensuring a stable supply of essential products such as fertilizers, basic chemicals, consumer chemicals, technical rubber, serving agricultural production, industry, and the people's lives.

VINACHEM continuously innovates technology, invests in-depth, and improves management capacity, step by step restructuring the enterprise associated with improving production and business efficiency. Many member units have boldly implemented automation and digitization solutions for production lines, saving energy, reducing emissions, and aiming for green production models and circular economy. At the same time, the Group always focuses on caring for the lives of workers, building corporate culture, and promoting the role of socio-political organizations throughout the system.

Development orientation for the 2025 – 2030 period

Entering a new development period, VINACHEM identifies the goal of sustainable, efficient, and modern development, continuing to affirm its role as a key state-owned enterprise in the chemical industry. Accordingly, the Group focuses on several major orientations:

• Promoting restructuring associated with innovating the growth model, improving corporate management capacity towards transparency, professionalism, and efficiency.

• Developing chemical products with high science-technology content, environmentally friendly, step by step participating more deeply in regional and global value chains.

• Promoting green transition and digital transformation, strongly applying science and technology, automation, and digital data in management and production; reducing emissions, using resources and energy efficiently.

• Strengthening research and development (R&D), linking with research institutes, universities, and partners domestically and internationally to improve innovation capacity.

• Building a contingent of high-quality officials and employees, meeting development requirements in the new context.
