On the morning of 6th August, during a working visit to the Lao PDR, Mr. Phùng Quang Hiệp, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Members’ Council of Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem), together with his delegation, held a meeting with Mr. Soulivath Souvannachoumkham, Standing Vice Chairman of the Laos–Vietnam Cooperation Committee. The meeting aimed to report on the progress of the potash mining and processing project in Nongbok district, Khammouane province, and to discuss solutions for overcoming difficulties and obstacles so that the project can be implemented and brought into operation as soon as possible.

At the meeting, Vinachem’s leadership expressed sincere appreciation to the Laos–Vietnam Cooperation Committee and Mr. Soulivath Souvannachoumkham for their ongoing attention and support throughout the project’s implementation. This is a project of great significance in the economic cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, contributing to the strengthening of the special friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Reporting to the Standing Vice Chairman, Vinachem’s leaders stated that many core aspects of the project have been carried out as planned. The Feasibility Study (FS) report has been completed and is being finalised in accordance with feedback from the consulting units. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has also been completed and is currently under review and appraisal by the Lao authorities.

In addition, Vinachem has transported much equipment and materials to the site, preparing the necessary infrastructure and conditions ready for the construction phase.

To ensure progress, Vinachem requested that the Laos–Vietnam Cooperation Committee continue to monitor, support, and coordinate with Lao ministries and departments to expedite the resolution of outstanding procedures. In particular, the Group requested facilitation of the early completion of the investor transfer process; acceleration of the appraisal and approval of the Feasibility Study and EIA; continued consideration of preferential tax mechanisms under existing agreements; and permission for the project to implement certain preparatory works before all procedures are fully finalised.

Mr. Phùng Quang Hiệp affirmed that Vinachem regards the Potash Project in Laos as a strategically significant mission for the Group, not only to ensure potash supply for Vietnam’s fertiliser production, but also to drive economic development, create local employment, and bring tangible benefits to both countries.

The meeting once again demonstrated the close coordination between Vinachem and the Laos–Vietnam Cooperation Committee in project implementation. The Group hopes to continue receiving the attention and support of the Committee and of the Lao authorities to quickly resolve procedural obstacles, enabling the Potash Project to move into the construction phase as planned and helping to materialise cooperation agreements between the high-level leaders of Vietnam and Laos.
