Vinachem Organises Ceremony to Honour and Reward Outstanding Students at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO, IMChO) 2026
On 4th September, Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) held a ceremony to meet and reward Vietnamese students who achieved outstanding results at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) and the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad (IMChO) 2026.
Attending the event were Prof. Dr. Huỳnh Văn Chương, Director General of the Quality Management Department, Ministry of Education and Training; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Chemistry, School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, Hanoi University of Science and Technology; Dr. Đỗ Duy Phi, President of the Vietnam Chemical Society; award-winning students at the IChO and IMChO 2026, and their parents.
Representing Vinachem were Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Tú, General Director; Mr. Nguyễn Văn Quý, Standing Deputy Party Secretary; members of the Members’ Council, Board of Management, Supervisory Board, the Vietnam Chemical Industry Trade Union, and the Group’s functional departments.
At IChO 2026, all four Vietnamese students won Gold Medals. At IMChO 2026, all four team members won medals: two Golds and two Silvers.
People as the Key to Development
In his address, Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Tú, General Director of Vinachem, underlined the importance of people in the Group’s development. With a workforce of around 20,000 staff, engineers and workers, Vinachem identifies human resource development as key to achieving its target of double-digit growth, alongside requirements for technological innovation, management, and digital transformation.

According to Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Tú, no matter how advanced technology becomes, it always needs people to master it. Therefore, discovering, nurturing, and attracting capable scientific and technological talent must be prepared from an early stage.
With this orientation, Vinachem is gradually expanding activities to accompany students, pupils, and educational institutions. On 19th August 2026, the Group announced the “Vinachem Green” Scholarship Programme for 2026–2030, supporting students with outstanding achievements, difficult circumstances, and high results in national and international competitions.
The students recognised at the IChO and IMChO 2026 are the first to receive scholarships from this programme. General Director Nguyễn Hữu Tú described these initial scholarships as “the first bricks” in Vinachem’s long-term support for young talent.
Beyond scholarships, Vinachem aims to link support activities with opportunities for internships, factory visits, research guidance, and job connections. The Group is also considering the establishment of a chemical technology research and development centre to strengthen ties between business, education, and research institutions.
Expanding Links Between Business and Education
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Chemistry, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, commented that the Olympiads are vital for identifying students with outstanding scientific abilities. When businesses are more involved in this process, support can be broadened from awards and scholarships to training, research, real-life experiences, and connections to production needs.

This is also the direction Vinachem is following with the “Vinachem Green” Programme. Early engagement with universities, research institutes, and talented students allows Vinachem to access young human resources for areas needed by the chemical sector, especially science, technology, research, and product development.
Prof. Dr. Huỳnh Văn Chương, Director General of the Quality Management Department, Ministry of Education and Training, acknowledged Vinachem’s support for high-achieving students at international competitions. He noted that corporate participation helps foster, encourage, and nurture young talent, and strengthens the link between State, schools, and business in human resource development.

From Today’s Recognition to Future Contributions
Representing the honoured students, Nguyễn Mạnh Tuấn from Hanoi–Amsterdam High School for the Gifted is a standout member of the Vietnamese Chemistry team, having won two consecutive Gold Medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad in 2025 and 2026 and First Prize in the National Chemistry Competition in both years.

Sharing at the ceremony, Nguyễn Mạnh Tuấn said that behind every medal are the encouragement and support of teachers, family, and all those who have helped along the way. The recognition and encouragement from Vinachem motivate students to continue pursuing their passion for Chemistry.
He added that the scholarship is both recognition of past achievement and motivation for further study and research. He hopes that, in the future, when he is able, he will also support and encourage the next generation of students.
For Vinachem, rewarding students who have excelled at IChO and IMChO 2026 is the starting point for the “Vinachem Green” Programme. From these first scholarships, the Group will continue to broaden its connections with educational, research, and training institutions, to prepare a talent pipeline meeting the development needs of Vinachem and Vietnam’s chemical industry.
