India: Synthetic rubber output up 9% in July
The country’s synthetic rubber production rose 9 per cent to 8,929 tonnes in July, while the consumption increased almost 8 per cent to 36,355 tonnes during the month, according to the Rubber Board.
The output and consumption stood at 8,188 tonnes and 33,765 tonnes respectively in July last year, the Rubber Board data show.
Month-on-month, the production declined nearly 4 per cent in July to 8,929 tonnes, from 9,279 tonnes in June. Similarly, consumption decreased marginally to 36,355 tonnes from 36,945 tonnes.
From April-July this fiscal, synthetic rubber consumption rose nearly 10 per cent to 1,45,930 tonnes compared with 1,32,925 tonnes in the same period in 2010-11.
The production rose 5 per cent to 36,938 tonnes against 35,144 tonnes during the period.
Synthetic rubber is mostly used in the manufacture of tyres in the country.
The auto tyreindustry alone consumed 26,090 tonnes of the produce in July this year, which is 8 per cent higher than its consumption of 24,063 tonnes in the year-ago period.
In the April-July period, auto tyre industry’s consumption rose about 15 per cent to 1,07,930 tonnes against 93,711 tonnes in the same period last year.
India’s synthetic rubber imports rose 8 per cent to 30,005 tonnes in July from 27,832 tonnes in the same period last year.
The total stock of synthetic rubber in the country at the end of July 2011, stood at 46,180 tonnes.
