KUALA LUMPUR(Commodity Online) : Malaysian rubber-industry exports are slated to go up at least by 10% for this year from RM16.028 billion last year as the global economy recovers.

This has reportedly prompted the Malaysian International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed to remind the industry players to be ready with competent products that are worthy of exports, said the portal Bernama.

In 2010, rubber exports from Malaysia jumped 24 per cent compared to RM12.478 billion in 2009.

Sales of rubber products last year totaled RM13.6 billion with 57% raked in by rubber gloves. Tyres and tubes accounted for 14%.

The country intends to produce 980,000 tons in 2011 from 940,000 tons last year. Malaysia is the world’s third largest rubber producer.
