U.S. Zinc increases output on strong auto demand
U.S. Zinc has restarted idled capacity in order to meet better-than-expected demand from the automotive sector.
The company's zinc oxide plants in Clarksville and Millington, Tenn., are now producing zinc oxide at between 80 and 85 percent of capacity, up from around 65 percent during last year's slowdown. Additionally, the company's zinc oxide facilities in Brazil and China—where demand is "very, very strong"—have been operating at 100-percent capacity, according to Ed Smith, U.S. Zinc's director of zinc oxide sales for North America and Europe.
