Binh Dien Marks 30 Years of the Scientific Council, Continuing to Bring Science to the Fields

On 21 August 2026, in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Dien Fertiliser Joint Stock Company held a ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its Scientific Council (1996–2026) under the theme “30 Years of the Scientific Council – Companionship – Binh Dien Moves Forward”. This was an opportunity to reflect on three decades of collaboration between the company and the scientific community, and to define research, technological application, and innovation directions for the 2026–2030 period.

The ceremony was attended by incumbent and former leaders of the Party and State, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, institutes, universities, professional agencies, associations, local authorities, and numerous scientists and experts who have accompanied Binh Dien in research, product development, and technological transfer.

30 Years Bringing Science from the Lab to the Field

In September 1996, the Scientific and Technical Advisory Council of Binh Dien Fertiliser Joint Stock Company was established, gathering scientists in soil science, plant nutrition, plant breeding, plant protection, and cultivation techniques. Through successive chairmen such as Prof. Dr. Vũ Cao Thái, Prof. Dr. Mai Văn Quyền, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Văn Bộ, the Council has gradually contributed to research direction, product development, and the creation of technical procedures suited to different ecological zones.

A highlight of the Council’s activities has been the practical application of research. Scientists and Binh Dien’s technical staff directly survey soils, crops, and production conditions; organise field trials and evaluations before finalising technical procedures.

Through this approach, Binh Dien gradually developed specialised Dau Trau fertiliser lines and expanded from product research to building cultivation solutions tailored to each crop and ecological region.

The Smart Rice Cultivation Programme to Adapt to Climate Change is a notable result, implemented in 13 Mekong Delta provinces, helping farmers reduce chemical fertiliser use by 20–30%, seed rates by 30–50%, and increase profits by about VND 2.5–4.5 million per hectare.

In the Central Highlands, the Smart Coffee Cultivation Programme focuses on soil health management, rational input use, improved production efficiency, and climate resilience.

In the programme for developing one million hectares of sustainable, high-quality, low-emission rice linked with green growth in the Mekong Delta, Binh Dien continues to cooperate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the National Agricultural Extension Centre, and professional units to develop and transfer low-emission technical procedures into production.

Alongside research and model building, Binh Dien organises numerous training courses, demonstration models, and specialised communication programmes to bring scientific knowledge closer to farmers. This strengthens the link between scientists, enterprises, agricultural extension systems, and farmers.

Focusing on Soil Health, Biotechnology, and Emission Reduction

For 2026–2030, the Scientific Council will continue to advise and connect Binh Dien with research institutes, universities, management agencies, agricultural extension systems, technology enterprises, and partners at home and abroad.

This orientation stems from clearer demands in agriculture: efficient input use, improved soil health, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, higher produce quality, and the application of technology and data in production management. These topics were also key points of discussion at the scientific seminar held as part of the anniversary.

Looking ahead, Binh Dien will pursue several lines of research cooperation, focusing on three main groups:

Firstly, developing smart fruit cultivation. Binh Dien collaborates with the National Agricultural Extension Centre, the Southern Fruit Research Institute, and the Vietnam Gardening Association to implement models for durian, dragon fruit, and mango, and works with partners to develop the Dong Nai pomelo value chain.

Secondly, advancing smart rice cultivation. Binh Dien works with research institutes, the National Agricultural Extension Centre, and the Vietnam Rice Industry Association to study rice cultivation techniques and apply biotechnology for improved soil health, aligned with the target of one million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice.

Thirdly, researching microbial applications for emission reduction. Binh Dien cooperates with biotechnology enterprises to research and develop microbial solutions for acid sulphate soil reclamation, organic toxicity treatment, and greenhouse gas mitigation, aimed at soil health improvement and more efficient fertiliser use.

During the ceremony, Binh Dien and its research, technical, and business partners also signed new memoranda of understanding, focusing on Dong Nai pomelo cultivation, smart rice cultivation, and biotechnology applications for emission reduction.

These collaborative efforts show that Binh Dien’s research focus is expanding from fertiliser product development to cultivation solutions, with science and technology directly addressing urgent production issues.

Gratitude to Generations of Scientists

The anniversary was also an occasion for Binh Dien to express gratitude to generations of scientists who have worked alongside the company over the past 30 years. Many experts have been directly involved in research, field trials, consultancy, and technical transfer both domestically and in neighbouring countries.

In recognition of the Council’s contributions, the Vietnam Fertiliser Association awarded a Certificate of Merit to the Scientific and Technical Council of Binh Dien Fertiliser Joint Stock Company for its achievements in supporting the development of Vietnam’s fertiliser industry.

Mr. Ngô Văn Đông – General Director of Binh Dien Fertiliser Joint Stock Company – shares the Council’s and the company’s development strategy for the new period and extends sincere thanks to all Council members.

In his speech, Mr. Ngô Văn Đông, General Director, affirmed that Binh Dien will continue to put farmers at the centre, with science and technology as the foundation; increase the role of science, green technology, and digital data in production processes; and work towards building a smart, circular, and sustainable agricultural ecosystem.

Three decades of the Scientific and Technical Council have been closely linked to Binh Dien’s efforts to translate research into products, from products into cultivation procedures, and from procedures to the field.

Looking ahead to 2026–2030, Binh Dien will continue to place science and technology, innovation, and connection with institutes, universities, and professional agencies at the heart of its development strategy. The goal is to create products, processes, and solutions better suited to modern agriculture, to use resources efficiently, reduce emissions, and increase production value for farmers.
