India has extended the deadline for import certification of selected chemicals to allow domestic end-user industries more time to adhere to the quality control requirements.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification mandate for ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers and four types of polyester yarn will be pushed back by three months to 3 July, the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers announced on 31 March.

For ethylene glycol (EG), accreditation will now be required on 28 June 2023, while for polyurethanes (PU) and paraxylene (PX), the accreditation requirement was pushed back to 19 March next year, the ministry said in separate notifications.

The mandatory BIS certification was expanded to cover more chemicals and petrochemical imports in 2019 as a non-tariff barrier against inferior imports.  – ICIS –
