Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for doubling efforts to raise the GDP growth rate to over 7 percent in 2024, while addressing the Cabinet meeting on Monday.

The move was made as Viet Nam's GDP growth accelerated to 7.4 percent in the third quarter, from July to September, compared to 5.66 percent and 6.93 percent in the first and the second quarters, respectively.

The above figures indicate an upward growth trajectory of the economy, defying all expectations.

In the first nine months, the economy expanded 6.82 percent, buoyed by strong expansion of agriculture, industry and service sectors.

The consumer price index increased by 3.88 percent from the same period last year while the core inflation grew by 2.99 percent year-on-year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Viet Nam's trade with the rest of the world was estimated to reach US$578.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.3 percent, of which the export value rose 15.4 percent to US$299.6 billion.

Inbound tourists soared by 43 percent to more than 12.7, surpassing the total number of foreign arrivals in 2023.

Foreign investment inflows increased by 11.6 percent to US$24.78 billion while th disbursed volume reached five-year high of US$17.3 billion, a year-on-year rise of 8.9 percent.

Viet Nam climbed 15 places to rank 71st out of 193 countries in the 2024 edition of the United Nations E-Government Survey.

The Southeast Asian nation scored 0.7709 in the E-Government Development Index (EGDI) to make its way into the "very high EGDI" group.

The nation was ranked 44 out of 133 countries and economies on the 2024 Global Innovation Index (GII) report, moving up two spots from 2023./.  – Source: VGP –
