Aid to help fight poverty

HA NOI — Two non-governmental organisations – Bread for the World and Agricultural Development Denmark Asia (ADDA) – have pledged over US$14 million for poverty reduction in Viet Nam through 2014, under agreements signed in Ha Noi yesterday by Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) president Vu Xuan Hong and representatives of the two NGOs.

Bread for the World will finance 30 projects worth a total $4.8 million in 12 provinces and cities in community development, microcredit, environmental protection, capacity building and emergency aid through 2012.

ADDA has committed $9.6 million for projects in sustainable agriculture development and pro bono legal aid projects in the cities of Ha Noi and Hai Phong and the provinces of Bac Ninh, Tuyen Quang, Vinh Phuc, Lai Chau, Son La, Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Ha Tinh and Nghe An.

On the occasion, Hong also presented licences to the two NGOs to set up representative offices in Viet Nam.
