LONDON (ICIS)--BASF will build an acrylic dispersions plant in Durban, South Africa, to strengthen its position in the region, the Germany-based petrochemicals giant said on Tuesday.
The company said the plant, which is scheduled to begin production in the second half of 2012, will benefit from local availability of raw materials and proximity to customers.
Acrylic dispersions are mainly used in the coatings and construction industry.
“With this new facility, we are well positioned to support our customers’ growth in South Africa and its neighbouing countries,” said Christoph Hansen, BASF's senior vice president of dispersions for adhesives and construction in Europe.
Financial details of the investment were not disclosed.
