Exports, imports drive EU chems Jan-Sep trade surplus growth

LONDON (ICIS)--The EU’s chemical products trade surplus for January to September increased by 19% from the same period in 2011, with imports and exports both higher, EU statistics body Eurostat said on Monday.
Eurostat’s figures showed that the trade surplus for chemicals in the EU rose to €86.9bn ($114.3bn) in the first nine months of 2012, up from €73.0bn in the same period last year.
Exports rose by 10% year on year to €208.7bn, and imports increased by 4% to €121.8bn.
The chemicals trade surplus in the eurozone between January and September was €93.5bn, up 15% from €81.6bn during the same period in 2011.
Eurozone chemicals exports grew by 7% to €233.7bn and imports by 3% to €140.2bn.
