Italy funds project on technology transfer

Opportunities are open to Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) to receive transfer of technology from Italian partners in a 3million Euro project funded by the Italian Government.

The project, co-sponsored by the Enterprise Development Department underthe Ministry of Planning and Investment and the UN IndustrialDevelopment Organisation (UNIDO), kick-started in 2009 to tap potentialof enterprises from the two countries.

ItalianAmbassador Andrea Perugini said at a workshop in Hanoi on June 16 thatItalian business circles have advantages in product designing andquality as well as marketing skills and mastery of technology in variousindustries. Meanwhile Vietnamese enterprises can offer abundantworkforces and low-cost labour, he pointed out.

Theseelements have revealed a prospect of win-win cooperation, said theItalian diplomat, adding that Italian enterprises would take thisopportunity to effectively transfer technology and experiences toVietnamese partners.

Nguyen Trong Hieu, DeputyDirector of the Enterprise Development Department, said through thisproject, Vietnamese SMEs are expected to improve their designing andmarketing techniques as well as management skills, diversify products,upgrade technology of production and quality examination as well asincrease access and approaches to financial sources.

Apparel, leather and footwear, and wood processing industries have beenselected as pilot for the project, Hieu added.
This isexpected to help the Vietnamese Government successfully implementpolicies in favour of SMEs so as to increase their competitiveness andfully tap the positive factors emerging from the nation’s World TradeOrganisation membership./.
