Vietnamese exports to US continue to rise

Two-way trade between Vietnam and the US surged by 17.1 percentyear on year in the first four months of this year reaching 5.267billion USD, announced the US Department of Commerce.
Vietnam now ranks 27th out of the countries that export to the US,earning over 4 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 13.5 percentwhile Vietnam’s imports from the US stood at over one billion USD, anincrease of 33.4 percent over the same period last year.
During the period, Vietnamese garments exports earnt 1.77 billion USD,increasing 10.83 percent over the corresponding period last year andaccounting for 6.49 percent of all garments that the US imports.
Wooden products and interior fittings lie second on thelist, making 522 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 25.4 percent.Vietnam has also become the fourth largest exporter of decorativewoodwork to the US, recording a turnover of 509.8 million USD, anincrease 25.3 percent over last year.
Vietnam’sfootwear exports recorded a turnover of 468.8 million USD, 1.96percent higher than the same period in 2009, making Vietnam the secondbiggest exporter to the US market only after China.
Also in this period, the export of agricultural products increased by15.7 percent to 224 million USD, ranking fourth in value amongst thecountry’s key export items to the US market.
Thecountry is still the sixth largest exporter of aquatic products to theUS with a turnover of 190.5 million USD, a year-on-year increaseof 10.3 percent. This includes 44.3 million USD 3,342 tonnes of tra andbasa fish .
Meanwhile, Vietnam’s imports from the USmarket in the first four months reached 1.097 billion USD, an increaseof 33.4 percent over the same period last year and mainly includedcattle feed, unprocessed meats, machinery, vehicles, cotton and woodenproducts.
According to statistics released by theVietnam Trade office in the US, Vietnamese exports to the USmarket are expected to rise by 15 percent over last year, to 14.2billion USD./.
