Washington State seeks cooperation with VN

Washington State wants to bolster cooperation in education andculture with Vietnam , particularly Ho Chi Minh City , saidWashington Governor Christine Gregoire.
The Washington Governormade the remark while meeting with Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh CityPeople’s Committee Le Hoang Quan in the city on Sept. 23, stressing thateducation cooperation was the key area of her current visit toVietnam .
She expressed her hope that more students fromVietnam would study at Washington ’s universities. Moreover,professors from her state and Vietnam would exchange visits to shareteaching experiences.
At present, about 1,200 Vietnames students are studying in Washington .
TheWashington state’s head also said that many enterprises in herstate want to set up trade relations with Vietnamese partners.
Forhis part, the HCM City leader praised the position and economicpotential of Washington state, which has many leading corporations andenterprises of the US , involving agriculture, farm produceprocessing, education and technology. With this strong marketattraction, HCM City wants to seek cooperation opportunities.
Hesaid cooperation between HCM City and the US has seen strongdevelopment. The evidence was that many leading universities andeducation centres from the US are present in the city or setting uprelations with Ho Chi Minh City ’s universities.
Quan pledgedto create favourable conditions for the city’s agencies and units tocooperate with partners from Washington state in economics, trade,education and training, culture, technology and agriculture.
Bothhost and guest highly valued the role of the Vietnamese community inWashington state, which is described as a bridge for friendship betweenVietnam and the US in general and between Ho Chi Minh City andWashington state in particular.
Washington state ranks third in the US in having a large number of Vietnamese people, at nearly 50,000./.
