Vietnam National Chemical Group and People's Committe of Tay Ninh Province signed an agreement on the construction of 20,000 tpy Sorbitol producing plant at Ong Dinh Stream, Tra Vong Commune, Tan Bien District, Tay Ninh Province.

The Tay Ninh located Sorbitol producing plant firstly built in Vietnam will use cassava as the main material which Tay Ninh farmers have an age-old planting experience and plants about 30,000 cassava ha/year.

Six ha area plant is invested over $22 million in total (as much as nearly 395 billion VND) in which Vinachem, Tay Ninh Sugar Cane Company and Vietnam Institute of Industrial Chemistry account for 40%, 40% and 20% of the above capital respectively.

According to Vinachem, Sorbitol is a polyol sugar product (a natural sugar) used in a lot of fields such as food industry, cosmetics, medicine and other industrial applications.

The waste air from sorbitol manufacturing process is not much. Besides, 1.7 solid waste tons including cassava offals and other non-toxic organic muds discharged from the plant each day are treated for fertilizers production. Water waste is also treated and decontaminated before running into the environment.
